McAfee Encrypted USB
(formerly SafeBoot for USB)
Protect data stored on removable USB devices
USB drives are small, portable, and provide incredible amounts of storage
space. They're a dream for users-but a security nightmare for IT staff. McAfee
Encrypted USB offers data protection in the form of powerful encryption
technology combined with strong access controls, so that only authorized users
can read the information stored on USB drives.
Small size and low costs combined with immense storage capacity make USB
drives wonderfully useful, yet incredibly dangerous. Because they're small,
these devices are easy to lose or use for corporate espionage. Their huge
storage capability increases the potential amount of data at risk.
In a McAfee-sponsored survey, 55 percent of respondents claimed that they
regularly brought documents out of the workplace on a USB drive. Of those, 17
percent admitted they accidentally left their USB drive in a public place.
McAfee Encrypted USB protects data from leaving your company's control
through USB drives. McAfee Encrypted USB storage devices feature powerful
encryption technology and strong access controls to ensure that information
copied and stored on them is safe and can only be read by authorized
persons.
Data is automatically encrypted "on the fly" with virtually no impact on
performance. Because the encryption happens transparently to users, there is no
interaction or training necessary.
Each Encrypted USB storage device is capable of supporting multiple end
users. Users maintain their own secure, password-protected partitions. When
users enter their passwords, it unlocks the device and grants users access to
their data.
Administrators can also create an optional "public area" in which to store
information that doesn't need to be encrypted.
Centralized management enables you to centrally define and enforce securities
policies to ensure data stored on devices remains protected in case they are
lost or stolen. It also allows you to deploy and manage any number of Encrypted
USB storage devices and users. In addition, you can leverage your existing
Microsoft Active Directory implementation to match users and Encrypted USB
devices.
Finally, Encrypted USB helps you meet your compliance goals with extensive
auditing capabilities. For example, prove that a USB device was encrypted at the
time it was lost.
Note: System requirements vary depending on the devices chosen by your
